Continuous stones lose their flat surface due to contact with the grinding material. Therefore, they themselves sometimes need to be re-trued. This requires a "stone" that is harder than itself, or a stone that is harder than the binder in question. This is done using either hard, coarse ceramic trueing blocks or diamond or CBN plates. For machine stones there are diamond dressers with handle.
Please note: do not dress coated stones under any circumstances!
Please note: Do not use an oil stone for dressing water stones!
