If you have a grinding machine anyway, the idea of just doing everything by machine suggests itself.
This strategy has great advantages:
Material removal is probably much faster than with manual grinding.
Stropping is also faster if the machine has a stropping disc.
However, there are also some disadvantages, so that a decision is not so easy:
Depending on the machine design, there is a risk of overheating. It takes correspondingly longer on slow machines.
The Precise clamping of the iron can be laborious, especially when the grinding wheels need to be changed for polishing and have different diameters. The problem does not arise when
coated discs of the same diameter are used, or
when the current slice can be manipulated in the grit.
