Work step (coarse) grinding

Sharpening: rough grinding brings the surfaces into shape

(Rough) grinding to correct the shape. In the end, the cutting edge angle should be correct and no nicks should be visible. If this is not necessary, it should be saved. Apparently, as long as you stay below grit 1000, you're talking about grinding. Personally, I find that it is almost impossible to remove any appreciable amount of metal with grit 1000. Personally, I would say: Grinding up to 400 grit.

We cannot yet reach the super-sharp cutting edge with the coarse grinding medium. However, in order to shorten the following work as much as possible, we should already use the finest possible grit. Otherwise, we may have to go through all the finer grits for nothing. But do not overdo it. This leaves us with 2 surfaces that are still reasonably scratched.

Rough grinding is the best candidate for machine work.
