The better we master it, the longer we can use freehand sharpening. But until we master it, we'll be wearing the bevel more often. Then, if we don't wait too long to repair it, we might be able to fix it with a sharpening guide.
This type of resharpening is the second-fastest after pure stropping (which we should do in this case anyway). And you don't need a lengthy angle adjustment with both.
